The shape and orientation of the Kansas map lent itself perfectly to a landscape painting

I had them curve in as if reaching for the moon

The final color I added was the splash of patina blue using acid oxidized copper paint

painted it and then added the gold raised spiral to the center of the Zia

Texas Flag Map (photo print) leaves The shape and orientation ofThe original version of Texas Flag Map was painted on a road map of Texas. Like my Colorado Flag, I didn't want to paint the flag like the original image, but wanted it to have more energy and movement. I traced out the design in pencil over the map then painted all the colors at the same time using a wet on wet technique that allowed the colors to mix and blend. I also sprayed the wet paints at the edges with a mister bottle and tilted the piece back
